Notes from the open meeting of the Association for Downloadable Media at the Podcast and New Media Expo.
Susan Bratton: The mission is to provide leadership in this industry to help with setting standards for audience measurement, research and advertising. It’s about helping us make money.

John Havens | Member Benefit Options: These are potential member benefits that can be brainstormed and worked on by the board.

  • We will standardize the metrics that the industry will recognize
  • Find something the industry can recognize
  • Create white papers to help companies integrate new media into their marketing mix
  • For indie podcasters, boilerplate documents to help them make contracts and media kits
  • An email list for networking

Chris McDonald | Surveys and Research:

  • We can become the de facto source for research
  • We want to help people understand the benefits of downloadable media
  • Aggregate information on the market size and revenue that is being made
  • We want to use the power of a larger organization to really collect psychographic and demographic information about podcast audiences
  • Primary research costs a lot of money. I am not recommending we spend more than is needed, but we need more members and money to make these kind of things happen.
  • We need companies and individuals to become members and to tell others about what we are trying to do

Elections:

  • We have 65 members
  • We have 21 elected positions to be filled
  • We only have 13 nominations so we need more nominations and suggestions for positions
  • Committees:
    • Ad Standards
    • Measurement
    • Outreach and Education
    • Terminology Standardization
    • Consumer Insights
  • We need people to participate on these committees
  • If you want to be elected, we need a 250 written statement of what your background is and what you can bring to the ADM and the industry
  • To submit for a position, email this statement to nominations at downloadablemedia dot org
  • Deadline is October 8 to submit a nomination
  • Nominations will be posted next week
  • Elections will be online that members will get a login for
  • Chairman Nominations: John Furrier (founded Podtech), Chris McDonald (Wizzard Media), Tim Street (French Maid TV – submitted by Pete Alcorn of Apple iTunes)
  • Tim Street: “Thanks for the nomination, but the guy from French Maid TV should not be in charge. This needs to look serious, because it is.”
  • Vice-Chair Nominations: Susan Bratton (Started the ADM initiative), Lee Gibbons (Podango)
  • Secretary: Matt Snodgrass (Porter Novelli)
  • Treasurer: Duncan Perry (COO Podcast.com)
  • Advertising Standards Committee Chair: none submitted yet
  • Measurement Committee Chair: John Federico (IconNicholson), Matt Snodgrass (Porter Novelli)
  • Outreach/Education Committee Chair: John Havens
  • Terminology Committee Chair: no submissions yet
  • Consumer Insights Committee Chair: no submissions yet

Matt Snodgrass | What can you do?:

  • Get involved with your “brain trust”
  • ADM does not have a chance of survival without you…the podcasters
  • We need international support. Please spread the word overseas
  • I don’t want this to be a U.S. group
  • Blog and podcast about us
