@John,

I've wondered the same things. I would certainly be willing to pay a fee for their service. I find it to be a valuable part of my workflow.

My inkling is that there will always be a free element of the service since they have adopted a similar name with the "Lite" designation.

The plan with the original GV, as I understand it, was to offer more advanced features at a price but leave the basic functions free at the "Lite" level.

If Podango is smart, they will not require you to use their hosting to get access from the Show Creator but instead will just offer very compelling reasons to use their service in conjunction with it. I imagine this is the direction they are going.

I have mixed feeling about this. I liked GVAL because it allows me to have a "portable podcast", in other words, if I change hosting services for my blog I can easily move my podcast. Podango may not be open to that in the future or they may require that my podcast be hosted on their site in order to continue using this wonderful technology. Whatever the future holds, I hope that Podange continues to allow us "little guys" in podcasting to continue to use the service without interruption and if a they charge a fee I hope that it will be nominal.

I'm sure Gigadango probably didn't work with trademark considerations. Sure rolls off the tongue though.

I think it's an good thing, an acquisition by a solid company. And the offsite, web-based platform itself looks brilliant, if you prefer to chop your production time via software + recording your segments in separate, later reassembled chunks (as opposed to hardware processing and recording live, one take on the fly).

Was "Gidango" ever considered? Or was that too giddyap?
