Highlights from Corporate Podcasting Summit London Day 1

Corporate Podcasting Summit I’m in London for the Corporate Podcasting Summit and wanted to share with you highlights from the first day (and try to keep the jet lag grogginess at bay at the same time).

Tom Webster, Internet and Multimedia Study, Edison Media Research

Some statistics from a new survey that will be released soon (measured nationally in the U.S.):

  • 37% have heard of podcasting (up from 22% in 2006)
  • 13% have ever listened to a podcast (only up from 11%
  • 11% have ever watched a video podcast (only up from 10% in 2006)
  • Podcast consumers are 51% are male; 49% are female
  • Many podcast listeners are highly educated and tend to be from higher income households
  • Podcast listeners are relatively well-distributed across all age categories
  • 25% of podcast listeners have bought online in the past week
  • Even though podcast listeners are more likely to block pop ups, banners, etc., they are more likely to click on something when it is well-targeted

  • Look at the culture of your organization when considering a podcasting initiative. Does it fit the idea of podcasting? Is the bureaucracy too thick? If so, it might not be a good fit. (Jason’s thought: you have to be ready to listen or else you won’t profit from the connection provided by podcasting)
