Keywords are words and phrases that potential listeners and site visitors might search for to find content such as yours. Targeting the right keywords is extremely important to the success of your marketing campaign.
Using the right keywords in your podcast title, feed, description, episode titles, and show notes will greatly increase the amount of free, targeted traffic you get from the search engines.
Spend some time brainstorming which keywords a potential listener might search for in iTunes or Google to find content such as yours. Target keywords that people search for often but that don’t have too much competition in the search rankings. Check your podcast description. Make sure that you are using at least a couple good search phrase keywords.
In chapter 4 of Promoting Your Podcast, I walk you through the exact process that I use to research and choose my keywords. I also show you how I use my keywords to achieve #1 spots in Google and iTunes searches. You’ll learn how to:
- Identify which keywords get the most searches
- Find the keywords that have the least amount of competition
- Use keywords to get higher rankings in Google bringing you free, targeted traffic
- Use keywords to get top search spots in iTunes
