On October 31st Yahoo will shut down their podcast directory. I just noticed this on their site.
I can’t say I am surprised. It has floundered for some time and it is just as well. Previously I placed them in my top ten most important directories because…well…it’s Yahoo!.
We have some great players in the directory arena, but iTunes still looms large. Won’t somebody please give us another slick portal-to-player experience like iTunes to the iPod? We need some more life here.

Good riddance! That directory has caused me nothing but grief since Spring of 2006. I would list Yahoo Podcasts in my Top 10 of podcast directories and then had to go through the painstaking task of explaining to my clients why their podcasts were not being updated.
It’s too bad because like you Jason, I liked what Yahoo was doing. I love the interface and it was nice to have another prominent name lending their expertise to podcasting.
Maybe Google will step up?
