3 Reasons Your Customer Base is Not Growing

3 Reasons Your Customer Base is Not Growing

Want to scale your business beyond the limitations of offering one-to-one services?

Create an online course or group program, right?

Well, yes. But a scalable offer alone won’t get you to your desired level of income, impact, and freedom.

Your entire business model also needs to evolve. That’s why I always work with my clients on three areas of their business.

  1. Positioning: how you are perceived in the mind of the audience you serve.
  2. Platform: the marketing messaging and channels you use to reach that market and attract new customers.
  3. Products: how you deliver your value proposition to the market.

All three need to be scalable. Today, I want to talk about your platform.

I see coaches and consultants make three common and costly main mistakes when scaling their platform to grow their audience and customer base.

MISTAKE 1: Too Much Focus on Visibility Alone

“If I just get in front of more people, I’ll attract more clients and customers.”

While that may be true to a degree, it fails to recognize that attention and visibility are only part of the equation.

Gaining new customers requires a platform that guides people through all three phases of the customer journey.

  1. Gain Attention
  2. Earn Trust
  3. Inspire to Buy

Focusing primarily on visibility creates a top-heavy customer journey. You must have marketing and sales channels in place for each of the three phases.

MISTAKE 2: Lack of a Complete and Cohesive Customer Journey

Your marketing and sales channels need to connect in such a way to guide your idea customers down a “garden path” that leads to the ideal offer for them.

Do you have a strategy to guide prospects through the right messaging using the proper channels for each phase of the journey?

MISTAKE 3: A Non-Scalable Platform

Is each touchpoint in your customer journey scalable, or do they require significant attention from you to move each person forward (e.g., a phone call to close the sale)?

As you create scalable offers, you need to have scalable strategies for consistently selling those offers.

This means developing a customer journey to attract more customers without increasing the demand on your time and energy.

Consider which of these three mistakes you might be making as you scale your business. Review your customer journey to make sure it’s comprehensive and compelling.

Remember, scaling requires evolving your entire business model, not just creating scalable offers.
