Breaking Free from Over-Hyped Marketing and Sales Tactics

Breaking Free from Over-Hyped Marketing and Sales Tactics

Overwhelming product launches. Sales webinars with no value. Sales funnels that churn through your leads. Over-hyped marketing language. Manipulative sales techniques. Ugh!

If you’re anything like me, you’re tired of seeing the same old sales and marketing tactics and being told you have to do the same things to grow your business.

Surely there must be another way…and there is.

There are thousands of approaches to attracting the perfect prospect, earning their trust, and inspiring them to buy…

All while still aligning with your vision, values, and strengths.

So what does it take?

Marketing and Sales That Align With Your Vision, Values, and Strengths

Last night, my girlfriend and I were practicing guitar together. We focused on learning to play the three minor scales: natural, harmonic, and melodic.

Our end goal was improvising a solo over the chord changes for Summertime. We could have stuck to the basic pentatonic scale used by so many musicians as an easy approach to improvising.

But we want to play solos that tell a story, sound sophisticated, and stand out from the usual, avoid hitting notes that might turn off the listener, and express our unique voice.

When marketing our courses, the goal is the same.

We want to:

  1. Stand out
  2. Sound authoritative
  3. Without talking down to our audience (i.e., sophisticated)
  4. Express our unique voice and
  5. Avoid turning off our potential clients by hitting the wrong “notes.”

As with improvising a guitar solo, learning the fundamentals first is essential. Then, you can build something that aligns with your sensibilities.

By learning the fundamental scales, my girlfriend and I are building a foundation for playing solos that are unique expressions of our voice while still appealing to the audience.

The minor scales help us understand which notes to work with over each chord change of the song.

Hitting the Right Notes with Your Marketing and Sales

All those annoying sales and marketing tactics use elements we all need to understand, but we don’t have to mimic them note for note. We can strip away the elements that don’t feel or sound like us and create something that uniquely expresses our own voice.

Marketing and sales fundamentals help you understand which “notes” to hit at each stage of the customer journey.

Rest assured, there is a way for you to be wildly successful at selling your valuable offers without violating the things that make you…you.

This is why I focus on teaching frameworks that give you the latticework upon which you can build an aligned and authentic marketing and sales strategy.

A hand drawing a path.

The path ahead is not in accepting the predominant formulas of your industry. It’s in understanding the fundamentals at work to craft a marketing and sales process that is your own.

What bothers you most about the status quo marketing and sales tactics in your industry? What would you change to make it feel more authentic to you?
